Singing with Mr H

Singing with Mr H

At Heamoor School, music plays an important role in our school life.

Monday:
Mr. H leads our Singing Club, which takes place during Monday lunchtime. From this club, we form our school choir. Choir gives children the chance to develop their vocal skills, build confidence, and perform together as a group.

Alongside this, children across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 take part in 1:1 Discovering Music sessions, where they explore and experiment with a range of instruments at their own pace. These include keyboards, metallophones, drums, and various percussion instruments.

Thursday:
Our week continues with a whole-school Singing Assembly on Thursday mornings. During this assembly, the choir performs to inspire others and demonstrate what being part of the group involves. We also enjoy performances from children learning the recorder and ukulele, allowing everyone to celebrate the musical achievements happening across the school.

In addition, we offer a range of instrumental lessons every Thursday. These include saxophone, clarinet, ukulele, alto saxophone, trumpet, drums (percussion), and recorder. Lessons are half an hour long, take place weekly, and are available to both KS1 and KS2 pupils. They run throughout the year and are paid for a term in advance.

Mr. H says,

“At Heamoor, the children are encouraged throughout the school, and this is supported by all of the staff and the senior leadership team — which is just brilliant.”
"Hello Everybody, how are you?"

Just in case you have missed any singing assemblies on a Thursday morning, below are some clips from Mr H to keep you singing

Pupil Voice

"I play percussion, so that’s drums, symbols and things you hit. The reason I started was because when my parents watched Glastonbury Festival on the tv, I liked how fast they got the drums and I wanted to have a go at learning that and to see how fast I could play the drums! I started last year, so I have been playing for 2 years. My future goal is to make a band."

"I play the ukulele. I play it because I like string instruments and I thought guitar was a bit too big so I thought I would try a smaller version of it and I like the sound it makes. The lessons in Blue class helped me because they gave me extra practice. I want my ukulele to be a hobby that I can play when I'm not doing my job when I’m older. Mr H is good."
