Computing and E-Safety

Mr Scott Markham

Computing Lead

At Heamoor School, our Computing curriculum aims to equip every child with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world. Through our carefully sequenced learning, supported by the Kapow Primary curriculum, we teach children not only how technology works, but how to use it creatively, responsibly and purposefully. We want our pupils to become curious problem-solvers, logical thinkers and resilient learners who are not afraid to experiment, debug and improve their ideas. From their very first experiences with technology in the Early Years to designing and refining complex programs in Key Stage 2, children build skills progressively while developing independence and confidence.

Computing at Heamoor goes far beyond learning how to use devices. It is about understanding the digital systems that shape our lives, recognising how technology connects communities across the world, and learning how to stay safe in online spaces. We actively promote digital citizenship and embed e-safety throughout our curriculum. By participating in national events such as Safer Internet Day and working alongside initiatives such as The Stay Safe Initiative, we ensure that our children, families and wider community remain informed about the latest guidance and best practice in online safety.

We aspire for our pupils to leave Heamoor as thoughtful, responsible and enthusiastic digital learners — children who can apply their computing skills beyond the classroom, whether collaborating online, evaluating information critically or creating digital content to express their ideas. Above all, we want them to feel excited by the possibilities technology offers, confident in navigating challenges, and empowered to use digital tools in ways that make a positive difference in their lives and the lives of others.

At Heamoor School, we believe that is is vitally important that all our community has an up to date awareness of what it means to 'stay safe' on line. The children are taught about this in class but also we invite the Stay-Safe Initiative to the school so they can share their knowledge, tips and expert advise with all our children.

This year our year Key Stage 2 have have been looking at how to use apps and games appropriately and prior to the workshop they were invited to complete an on-line (anonymous) survey.
