Forest School

Forest School at Heamoor

Forest School at Heamoor is currently offered as a targeted intervention, providing selected children with an enriching outdoor learning experience. Through hands-on activities such as fire-making, shelter building, and observing wildlife, children engage directly with nature in meaningful and purposeful ways. These experiences stimulate the senses, encouraging children to explore their surroundings using sight, sound, touch, and movement. Our inclusive approach ensures that the intervention supports a range of learning and developmental needs, enabling each child involved to participate confidently and succeed.

The Forest School intervention supports children across Early Years and Key Stage 1, as well as selected pupils in Key Stage 2. By carefully tailoring activities to individual needs, the programme promotes social, emotional, and physical development within a nurturing natural environment where children feel safe to express themselves and grow.

Immersion in our beautiful woodland area helps nurture children’s physical and mental wellbeing, encouraging active play, creativity, and resilience. Time spent outdoors supports emotional regulation, reduces stress, and fosters a sense of calm. Through these experiences, children develop essential life skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, independence, and self-confidence, while building a lasting connection with the natural world.

Forest School sessions are led by Mrs Reeves and a highly skilled team of Teaching Assistants, whose expertise, enthusiasm, and care ensure that each session is a positive, supportive, and confidence‑building experience for every child involved.
