History at Heamoor School
History helps children understand the world around them by exploring how people, places and events have shaped the society we live in today. At Heamoor Primary School, we inspire curiosity and a love of learning through engaging, enquiry-based history lessons that encourage pupils to ask questions, think critically and develop an understanding of chronology. Through the study of local, British and world history, children build their knowledge of the past while developing the skills needed to interpret and evaluate historical evidence.
We follow the National Curriculum through the carefully sequenced Kapow Primary History scheme, ensuring full coverage of the required knowledge, skills and vocabulary. The curriculum is designed to build progressively from Year 1 to Year 6, enabling children to revisit and deepen their understanding of key historical concepts such as chronology, significance, cause and consequence, and historical interpretation. This structured approach supports pupils in making meaningful connections between different periods of history and developing as confident young historians.
Our history curriculum celebrates both local heritage and significant events from the wider world. Children have opportunities to explore a range of historical sources, participate in discussions and investigations, and learn about important commemorations such as Remembrance Day. Through rich and memorable experiences, pupils develop respect for the past, an appreciation of diversity and change over time and an understanding of how history continues to influence our lives today.
