Safeguarding & Child Protection

Child Protection

The safety and well-being of the children in our care is always the driving force behind our decision making and the effectiveness of the school safeguarding procedures are outstanding. We undertake a yearly audit in line with the requirements of the 2002 Education Act to ensure that our safeguarding is carried out effectively and promotes the welfare of our children.

All staff and governors have had specific training and are proficient in all aspects of Child Protection.  We are committed to ensuring that we protect each and every one of our children from abuse of any kind.

We are legally bound to refer Child Protection concerns to Social Care. We may inform you of our concerns before we speak to Social Care, however, there are occasions when a referral to Social Care has to be made without informing you beforehand that we are doing this.

The designated Child Protection Staff are:

Mrs Jodie Flynn

Mrs Lesley Osborne

Miss Tamsin Cocks

-:-

Please note, Mr Ben Davies and Mrs Brigitte Barr are also trained to the same level and able to step in the absence of the designated leads.

If you have any concerns about a child please talk to one of our

Designated Safeguarding Leads or you can phone the Multi Agency Referral Unit on 0300 123 1116

Operation Encompass

Operation Encompass is a Police and Education early intervention safeguarding partnership which supports children and young people exposed to domestic abuse. Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has exposed to, or involved in, any domestic incident.

Our school takes part in the project that is run jointly between schools and Devon and Cornwall Police whereby the police contact us the day following any incident of domestic abuse where a child is present.

We have members of the school staff, known as Key Adults , who are trained to allow them to liaise with the police and to use the information that has been shared, in confidence, to ensure  that the school is able to make provision for possible difficulties experienced by children, and their families, who have been involved in, or exposed to, a domestic abuse incident.

We are keen to offer the best support possible to all our pupils and we believe Operation Encompass  extremely beneficial for all those involved.
