Our Allotment

Our School Allotments

Although our school allotments are still in their infancy, lots of work has already taken place. Our journey started by hosting a ‘Big Dig’, which involved our staff, parents and children giving up their time on a weekend to move the soil into the allotment beds and build a fence. During Science Week, every class was allocated their own allotment bed and learnt about sowing and growing in the classroom before going outside and planting their own seeds. Some of last year’s Year Six children were then responsible for regularly watering these beds and looking after them. During our House Days, all of the children took part in weeding the beds, building bug hotels and creating bird feeders that were then placed in our allotment space. In the summer term, we also launched our own ‘Gardening Club’ which resulted in our children growing some very impressive looking tomatoes.
