Eco-school

At Heamoor School we learn more than just the Geography of our planet!  We want to understand our world and our responsibility to our planet as global citizens!

To show our dedication throughout the school, we are aiming to earn an Eco-Schools Green Flag award!

To achieve this, in the 2021 - 22 school year we aim to:

1.   Confirm our Eco-Team members in the Autumn Term with at least ONE member of each class in school represented.

2.   Meet as a committee at least once every half term with minutes taken by the children and displayed on our Eco-board.

3.   Conduct an Environmental review of the school.

4.   Create an action plan with three topics from the following options: Biodiversity, Energy, Global Citizenship, Healthy Living, Litter, Marine, School Grounds, Transport, Waste and Water

5.   Update this page on all our progress for all our Heamoor family to see!

Our progress...

1. Set up our Eco-committee

Our aim when setting up our committee was to include at least TWO representatives from each class to help ensure our objectives are met to achieve our Bronze award.

In March, we asked for members of our school to express an interest in being members of our eco-committee by completing an application form telling us why they would be a fantastic force for a greener Heamoor!

We were delighted with the AMAZING standard of applicants that we made the decision to GO BIG with our committee!

Instead of only ONE committee set up to focus on all the projects, we set up THREE branches of our committee!

They are our:

Targets Team
Plastic Free Team
Community Ambassadors

See below for committee member names and what each section will be doing to make Heamoor green!

Community Ambassadors

At Heamoor, we want to encourage and empower our children to engage with our wider community of parents, families and residents of Penzance.  Our Community Ambassadors will help to drive our green message by helping draft content for the newsletters, write updates for our website and through community drives to engage parents and Penzance residents to help our environment!  Our current Year 6 pupils will also help us to link with secondary schools when they transition, creating stronger links with our secondary friends and colleagues to carry our green message further!

Our Community Ambassadors are:
Ethan
Lily-Mae
Morgan
Isla
Matilda
Before they had even begun official committee duties, our fantastic Eco-Team showed their creative flair by creating posters, stars with messages on them, information booklets and even a video to:
Pass on an important message/piece of advice to others
Inform people about plastic pollution
Show what we currently do at Heamoor to be eco-friendly

These amazing pieces of work will be put on our Eco-Board at school and on this page - well done, Eco-Team!  You are already making a BIG difference!  We are SO excited for the future with our fantastic team!
