Tricky words

Tricky’ words are words that we have to know from sight, rather than by sounding out.

Your child should be able to read the word, spell the word out loud (using the phonics sounds rather than letter names) and write the word.

Don't try to learn all 3 sets at once, start with set 1 and when your child is confident with those 6 move on to the next set.

Make it as fun as possible, you can play games like snap and bingo or make up some flash cards and 'test' each other.

Once your child has learnt some of these words you can write other words onto flash cards and they can start to make up some sentences.
