Invaders and Settlers, the History of Penzance and Penwith, Smugglers and Pirates, Inventions and the Aztecs . These topics will provide the children with opportunities to develop their skills in all areas of the National Curriculum, including Science, Art, D.T. Geography, History and Music.
The two main focus areas will, of course, be Literacy (speaking and listening, reading and writing) and Numeracy (the number system and operations, shape and space, measures, data handling and problem solving) and the children will be working on these every day to develop their skills following the Primary National Strategy. Your support and involvement with homework is crucial to your child’s progress and will help to develop his/her full potential as well as forging a positive link between home and school. If you have any questions about how best to support your child please come and ask me. Please make sure that the week 13th –17th May 2013 is kept free especially if you are thinking of booking a holiday as this is SATS week!!
On Tuesday afternoons, the children will be involved in activities to develop I.T. and P.E. Skills. These sessions will be led by Mrs. Fuller (I.T) and Mrs. E Jenkin (P.E.). I plan these sessions together with the staff to ensure continuity and progression for the children.
Later this year, we will be using the outdoor environment for learning opportunities whenever possible so it will be useful for your child to keep a set of outdoor/gardening clothes and wellies in school all the time. If the clothes get wet or very dirty I will make sure they come home for drying and cleaning! As a whole school, we will be focussing on developing our school field this year and we plan to actively involve the children in this as much as possible so that they develop a sense of ownership and respect for the wonderful school grounds we are so lucky to have. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to come and talk to me! (Wednesdays after school) I am looking forward to a very happy and successful year with your children.
