We are a class of Year 2 and 3 children who enjoy learning.
Our teacher is Mrs Topsey-Eaton and we are supported by Mrs Barr.
During the Autumn Term we have been exploring a topic called 'Expanding Empires' which is all about the Ancient Romans. We have enjoyed developing our research, enquiry and reading skills, finding out this amazing time in history.
What do you know about the Romans?
In October we were asked to be involved in Julia Donaldson's Children's Laureate Tour when she visited Penzance Library. We were the only school in Cornwall and Devon to be invited to meet and perform for her. It was an amazing experience!
As a class we wrote a song called 'The Monkey Calypso' which we set actions to and performed for Julia Donaldson.
We loved performing it and had great feedback from Julia and the library staff.
We have read and responded to lots of Julia Donaldson's books.
We enjoyed reading 'Jack and the Flum Flum Tree' and used our own patchwork sack to retell the story. We explored patchwork patterns and created some of our own using computer programs and paper to create collages.
We drew and painted our own monkeys inspired by the mischievious monkey in the story. We also wrote character descriptions about the monkey using interesting descriptive words and phrases to create images for our reader.
Julia and her husband, Malcolm, performed some of their songs for us. We really enjoyed acting out the story of 'The Magic Paintbrush' with them.
We also read her new book 'The Singing Mermaid'.
It inspired us to create our own Singing Mermaid and Mermen paintings.
We have worked with staff from The National Trust's Trengwainton Gardens to create these withie lanterns for their 'Lantern Walk'. Do you like our designs?
We made two giant robins too!
